Why You’re Not Making Sales Even Though You Post Consistently

Today, let’s dive into a topic that’s probably been on your mind: why all your hard work on Instagram isn’t translating into sales.

I get it – you’re putting in the hours, posting consistently, and pouring your heart into your content. But somehow, the sales just aren’t rolling in like you hoped they would. Well, fear not! I’m here to shed some light on why that might be happening and, more importantly, how to fix it.

1. is your messaging too vague?

Okay, let’s start with the “basics.” When it comes to selling, specificity is key. Think about it – if someone tells you they made some money from selling a product, that’s nice and all, but it doesn’t really grab your attention, does it? Now, picture seeing a reel that says this: “I made $10,401 in 30 days from one $47 digital product.” Boom! Suddenly, you’re intrigued. You want to know more, right? That’s the power of specificity. So, take a look at your hooks and captions. Are they too vague? Are people scrolling past?

I know this is seen as one of the basics of business but there’s nothing basic about it. It's something most solopreneurs get wrong, especially beginners. Why? Because of a little thing called self sabotage. 9 times out of 10, people think they are being specific when they aren't, and this is because being specific feels dangerous. It feels like you're going to alienate potential clients when you are specific in your messaging. But when you try to speak to everyone, you speak to no one.

In order for people to buy from you, you have to capture their attention which can only be done nowadays when you're being specific, and you have to resonate with them on a personal level, which specificity does.

Messaging is a topic we’ll cover inside The Simple Business Builder self-study edition. Join the waitlist >>

2. You Don’t Have a Super Niche

Ah, the super niche – it’s like finding your own little corner of the internet where you reign supreme. Sure, you might have a niche based on who you help or what you sell, but what about your unique approach, perspective, or style? That’s where the magic happens. Build your niche around that. Your Super Niche sets you apart from the crowd and gives your audience a reason to choose you over everyone else. So, take some time to really think about what makes you a little different. What unique style or perspective do you bring to the table? Once you’ve got that figured out, own it, and watch as your tribe rallies around you.

Guess what? Creating a Super Niche is a topic we’ll also cover inside The Simple Business Builder self-study edition. Join the waitlist >>

3. Your Audience Isn’t Feeling the Connection

Let’s talk about that “this is for me” feeling. You know the one I’m talking about – it’s that instant connection you feel when you stumble across a piece of content that speaks directly to your soul. That’s what your audience should be feeling every time they scroll through your feed. If they’re not, it might be time to reassess your approach.

Are you speaking to their surface level pain points and desires, or the deeper ones they might even feel scared to talk about online? Are you making them feel seen and heard?

Remember, building a loyal community isn’t just about the numbers – it’s about forging genuine connections with the people who need you most.

(Psst! If you need help posting consistently on Instagram without feeling like you’re on a content creation hamster wheel, I invite you to join The Content Batching Blueprint!)

4. The Algorithm is Showing Your Content to the Wrong People

Ah, the ever-elusive algorithm. It can be a blessing or a curse, depending on where it decides to shine its spotlight. And let’s face it – sometimes it gets it totally wrong. Like that time one of my content batching posts went viral, only to find out it was going viral to men in India. Now, don’t get me wrong, I love connecting with people from all corners of the globe, but when it comes to selling, it’s all about reaching your ideal audience.

So, what did I do? I hit the delete button, regrouped, and tried again. And you know what? The next time I went viral, I reached a 900k ideal and aligned clients. How did I do it? Well, that leads me to my next point…

5. Optimizing Your Content for Your Ideal Audience

So, how exactly did I go from reaching the wrong crowd to hitting the jackpot with my ideal clients?

  • I location tag all of my content. (This doesn’t have to be your location, it can be the location of your ideal audience.)

  • I’m very specific in my posts, captions and hashtags about who it’s for. Keywords help the algorithm show your content to the right people.

  • I started engaging for 30 mins every day with my ideal clients and accounts similar to mine to show the algorithm what my account is about and who it’s for. Some people don’t believe this does anything, but when I did this I began noticing that the accounts I engaged with (and the people commenting on those posts) began engaging with my content.

(I also know someone who went from reaching millions of her ideal customers, to reaching hardly anyone. She’s one of the first to get Instagram’s new feature, “Creators Like You”, which shows you similar creators to yourself. And guess what hers showed? NO accounts like hers, just accounts similar to what she follows... You see where I’m going here.)

6. Patience is Key: Don’t Expect Overnight Success:

Ah, the allure of overnight success – it’s a tempting notion, isn’t it? But here’s the reality check: building a thriving online presence takes time, effort, and yes, a whole lot of patience.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of expecting instant gratification and quick fixes, especially in today’s fast-paced world. But the truth is, creating good content is a skill that you develop over time, just like learning to play the piano, or learning to knit. Sure, you can take a course to give you a leg up, but the real magic happens when you roll up your sleeves and practice.

Taking one course and expecting your content to go viral overnight is like taking one gym class and expecting to go home with a six pack. 👀

So commit to practicing, experimenting, and yes, analyzing the results. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and neither is a killer content strategy. So, take a deep breath, trust in the process, and remember – good things come to those who wait (and work for it).

As you can see, specificity and messaging is often the reason your content isn’t performing. If you want to learn how to build a Super Niche & create magnetic messaging so your content finally converts, join the waitlist for The Simple Business Builder Self-Study Course.

Please note: In the past, I’ve ran The Simple Business Builder mastermind which was very comprehensive and taught my entire system. This is a simplified self-study course focusing solely on one a few of the key elements of SBB: niche, messaging, and creating an irresistible offer suite.

How I’m Restructuring My Offer Suite (Introducing the S.M.A.R.T System)

Have you ever felt misaligned with your offer suite, like something about what you sell just isn’t quite right? Isn’t quite “it”?

Or…

Maybe you want to start a business but have no idea what to sell. What would be a good online business idea?

Maybe you feel like you’re leaving money on the table because your offer suite has gaps in it.

Or maybe your offers aren’t selling, despite posting consistently.

These are just some of the reasons you may feel stuck on what to sell.

I’m restructuring my offer suite at the moment after refining my signature framework for over a year now, so today we’re going behind-the-scenes into why, what’s changing, and most importantly what you can learn from it to create offers that sell out.

Before we dive in, I wanted to let you know that The S.M.A.R.T system will be coming out soon so stay tuned!

So, what was so wrong with my original offers? Why am I changing my offer suite?

Let me take you back in time!

For a long time, the only thing I sold was ONE course called Organize & Automate. I made multiple six figures from this course.

But I grew really bored of only ever talking about systems and how to organize your business, so in 2021, I launched Simple Sales School, which is a marketing and sales course.

The launch went well, I made about £35K that month (£20K in cash, the rest in payment plans.)

BUT:

  • I felt the course was too big. Too packed with info.

  • If I felt this way, I assume my students probably did too. Many of them told me they love the course and saw amazing results, but many also said they didn’t finish the course.

I kept thinking: “if I just simplify this course, that will fix the problem.”

But my brain kept putting up a mental block. Something about doing that just didn’t feel right either.

Then I realized why.

  • Not everyone in my community needs my entire framework, so by selling it as that, I was going to miss out on helping hundreds of people who wouldn’t join a big framework like the one in this course. I wanted to give people the ability to join the entire framework OR just join the module they needed.

  • I care deeply about accessibility. As someone who comes from a background of working minimum wage jobs, having no degree, no rich parents… I care about people of lower budgets having access to my products. Not coaching or 1-1 services as these require max energy and should have four-figure prices, but I always knew I wanted to sell low-ticket products and courses too ($47 - $497).

  • I don’t like updating huge courses; it’s overwhelming. So while I still want to sell ONE course made up of 5 mini classes, I want it to be easy and swift to get through with maximum impact. Courses don’t need to be long to be valuable.

  • I love buying low ticket offers that teach one specific skill. And when I surveyed my audience, they said the same. In fact if you look across the market of digital product sellers right now, this is what is selling really well.

  • My offer suite was lacking an entry offer - a low ticket offer usually $47 - $65 that allows people to dip their toe in what it’s like to buy from you. It’s low risk to join and increases the odds of people joining your higher ticket offer because if your low ticket products were great, they have more trust in your high-ticket offer (and it feels less risky to invest in it.)

What I Learned from This & What You Can Learn Too

1. I launched a low-ticket offer called The Content Batching Blueprint. And I’m soon launching a mid-ticket offer called The S.M.A.R.T System, which teaches you how to work smarter not harder, and scale to $5-10K months with part-time work weeks.

I want the S.M.A.R.T system to be made up of one course or class per section. Then people can buy the entire system (which is going to be the best value) or they can just buy the section they want.

(Psst! Before we go on, you should know: I have a FREE list of 100 Profitable Digital Product Ideas. Sign up to download them >>)

2. Your offer suite needs a low-ticket digital product as an entry offer so that people can get a taste of what it’s like investing in you, and feel less risk investing in your higher ticket offers. Students inside my Content Batching Blueprint are already asking me what else they can buy from me, so trust me, this works.

3. Don’t underestimate the power of low ticket offers like I did. You don’t HAVE to sell high-ticket to make $5-10K a month, you can do so from digital products under $100. But just know that if you want to do this, you’ll need to post at least 4-5 times a week on Instagram and post stories daily too. This is how you’ll make your sales. (Use my Content Batching Blueprint or Story Sprint to help you.)

4. If you’re creating a digital product or course, make it easy and fast to go through. The goal should be to get your students results as fast and easily as possible. More content does not amount to more value.

So, How Is My Offer Suite Changing?

Simple Sales School is retiring soon and I’m creating a brand new system:

The S.M.A.R.T System.

Some parts of the system are taught inside Simple Sales School and some parts are new.

If you're inside Simple Sales School then the parts of the S.M.A.R.T system that correlate with modules inside of Simple Sales School will be given to you for free. Any parts of the S.M.A.R.T system that weren't featured inside Simple Sales School will have to be purchased separately.

What is the S.M.A.R.T System?

S: The Simple Business Builder (where you’ll lay foundations to build a simple yet profitable business, such as your Super Niche and an irresistible offer.)

M: Marketing strategy. Use a content strategy that can drive daily sales and inquiries even *without* going viral. Entrepreneurs that rely on going viral often burn out. Business owners who can make money even when their posts only reach 1K eyeballs can sleep easy.

A: Automated email marketing. Create a freebie and use that to grow your list. Then when you’re ready for a more advanced strategy, automate 6 months of email marketing so you can make sales in your sleep.

R: Revenue-rocketing digital products. Launch a digital product so you can make passive income.

T: Create time management systems so you can work less and earn more. (Like my content batching system!)

Sign up for my free guidebook to learn more!

When will it be available?

The entire S.M.A.R.T system should be launched and available before this Summer.

I’ll be honest - restructuring my offer suite has been the biggest hurdle I’ve faced in business for a while. I’ve put a lot of pressure on myself to make it as amazing as possible and I think that has resulted in me taking longer than I should have to get this out into the world. But it’s almost here. And I’m grateful for your patience and understanding as I’ve been figuring out how best to structure everything I’ve learned over the last 12 years of entrepreneurship into one system!

What's happening to Simple Sales School and Organize & Automate?

Organize & Automate is still available but we’re making changes to the sales page. If you’d like to join, email us and we’ll send you the link!

Simple Sales School will be retired but as I mentioned earlier, if you're inside Simple Sales School then the parts of the S.M.A.R.T system that correlate with modules inside of Simple Sales School will be given to you for free. Any parts of the smart system that weren't featured inside Simple Sales School, you will have to purchase separately.

My Honest Opinion About Master Resell Rights

In the fast-paced world of online entrepreneurship, the allure of quick profits often leads us down paths that may not align with our long-term goals. One such trend that's been gaining traction is the purchase of courses with master resell rights (MRR). But before you dive headfirst into this seemingly lucrative opportunity, it's essential to understand the potential pitfalls involved.

Join me asI share my honest opinion about master resell rights and uncover alternative paths to sustainable success in the online business world.

Disclaimer: I’m not trying to yuck someone’s yum here. If you sell a course with MRR and it’s working for you, you do you! This episode is here to make sure anyone who is considering MRR sees the cons and not just the pros.

Article

In the vast ocean of online opportunities, one trend that's been making waves lately is the purchase of courses with master resell rights (MRR). It's a tempting idea: buy a course, gain the rights to sell it, and pocket 100% of the profits. What’s not to like? BUT is it truly the golden ticket to success, or could it be a potential pitfall disguised as a shortcut? Let's delve into the realities of this trend and why, despite its allure, it might not be the wisest choice for your business.

Understanding Master Resell Rights:

Before we explore the pitfalls, let's clarify what master resell rights entail. Essentially, when you buy a course with MRR, you're granted permission to sell it yourself and keep all the profits.

1. Oversaturated Market:

Picture this: you stumble upon a seemingly irresistible offer for a course with MRR. However, if it's readily available to you, it's equally accessible to countless others in your niche. This leads to an oversaturated market flooded with identical products and brands selling in identical ways, diminishing their perceived value and making it challenging for you to stand out.

2. Reputation Risks:

Associating your brand with products you didn't personally create can tarnish your reputation and credibility if that creator or brand gets in trouble.

I personally don’t resell anyone else’s products unless I know the person well (i.e. we’ve met multiple times and I know their values, trust them to be an ethical person, and know their product is amazing.)

3. Integrity in Online Business:

It’s catching a bit of a scammy reputation. I’m not saying it is a scam. I’m saying that there has been a lot of sketchy people selling it as their own, changing the name of it, and so on. This leads to people buying it thinking they’re buying something else, and realizing they’ve been duped and it’s the same course they may already have bought, or seen around.

I’m also pretty convinced that this MRR thing is the reason why there’s SO many women on Instagram saying they can help you “make money online” who have 2 followers and have never actually made money online.

I’m a big believer that if you haven’t gotten real results with something, or you don’t have any experience with it, you should not be selling something about it.

People with no online business experience shouldn’t be teaching people about business.

It’s like someone who’s never performed open heart surgery offering to perform open heart surgery on you.

Try to avoid the trend of selling something just because you think it will make money quickly and easily. You don’t need to do that. All of us have enough knowledge and expertise we can monetize. We all have at least one transformation we’ve personally been through successfully that we can package up into an offer that helps others achieve the same transformation. (And it doesn’t have to be related to making money! I have students who manage podcasts,

“But I’m a beginner and I need to make money. Aren’t I supposed to fake it til I make it?”

No.

Go out there and get some experience!

  • Offer to take on discounted beta clients or students

  • Offer to do projects for free in exchange for testimonials

  • If you want to teach something you have not achieved yet, document your journey to achieving it on Instagram. THEN sell an offer teaching the transformation.

4. Quality Control Concerns:

Just because a course comes with master resell rights doesn't guarantee its quality. Sacrificing quality for the sake of quick profits can damage your reputation and erode the trust of your audience. Instead of prioritizing short-term gains, focus on creating high-quality, original content that adds genuine value to your audience's lives.

5. Embracing Authenticity and Long-Term Growth:

Rather than succumbing to the trend of master resell rights, consider investing your time and energy into creating your own high-quality offers. Whether it's low-ticket digital products or high-ticket services, once you find something that sells well it will outlast the trend of MRR. While it may require more effort upfront, the long-term rewards far outweigh the allure of quick profits.

(PS- I have a free list of 100 digital product ideas to spark your creativity!)

6. A Path to Sustainable Success:

In today's competitive landscape, authenticity and uniqueness are your greatest assets. By embracing your individuality, you'll not only outshine the competition but also build a resilient and sustainable business for the future.

The only thing that makes you stand out online is YOU. Don’t remove yourself from your brand by selling something someone else made, in the exact way they’ve taught 1000’s of others to sell it.

I created and now sell The Content Batching Blueprint - my method for batching 1 month of content in 1 day. There are already 100’s of creators teaching you how to make money online or sell on Instagram but very few teach it the way I do. This is one simple way that I stand out.

ARTICLE

Take a little trip back in time with me to 2012.

I was working as a Pizza Hut waitress and retail worker, paid about £6.59 per hour at the time, and I had a toxic boss who was super nice to my face but talked about me when I wasn’t around.

I’m neurodivergent so I already felt a bit different, despite not being diagnosed yet. I was also a pretty shy teen and I didn’t fit in well with some of the more extroverted staff members. It was at these jobs that I first remember FEELING different and being TREATED differently.

I wanted OUT.

I wanted to be my own boss.

I wanted the freedom to live and work from ANYWHERE in the world.

I wanted to do creative work I loved, NOT mop the floors of the restaurant or straighten coat hangers to pass the time.

I had a blog at the time - it was my side hustle. And one day, someone offered to pay me £150 to design a blog for them. (Very underpriced but at the time it felt like a lot!)

I told my coworker (who was studying graphic design at university) and here’s what she said:

“You can’t charge someone money for that, you’re not qualified.”

And she was right… I didn’t have any kind of degree. I was just a waitress and retail worker. I started thinking… “I’m not experienced enough for this. I don’t have enough money to start a business anyway. How will I even fund this?”

So what did I do?

I accepted the client anyway. I taught myself web and graphic design. I used my savings to buy a better laptop + Adobe programs. I used my credit card for a couple of business tools. I raised my prices over time as I gained more experience.

And guess what?

In time, I was earning enough from web design to quit my 9-5 and get on a flight to Thailand.

(If you want to do the same, sign up for The Profitable & Productive Web Designer Bootcamp before April 15th!)

Web design changed the trajectory of my life.

WHY WEB DESIGN?

I was always a creative - I loved art, drawing, photography, and writing.

I would redesign my blog for fun, just because.

If you’re a creative person and you have a good eye for design, even if it’s not necessarily WEB design, you just really enjoy interior design and choosing color palettes etc… If you haven’t started a business yet, I’d really recommend considering web design.

Even though people can buy website templates nowadays, there are lots of businesses worldwide that:

  • don’t have the technical skills to do that

  • don’t have the desire or time to

  • want a custom designed website that isn’t gonna look the same as 50 others

Because the world is all online now, businesses often lose tens of thousands if they don’t have a website. So web designers are needed and always will be. Did someone say… job security? ;)

HOW I LANDED MY FIRST CLIENTS

  • Don’t be afraid to ask for referrals - my first client came from a fellow designer.

  • I used social media - I ran a limited-time offer on logo designs.

  • My friend Paige didn’t use social media, she used SEO to rank no.1 on google for Squarespace web designer.

There are so many ways to land clients. Choose one, two at most, and give it your all.

COULD WEB DESIGN BE THE THING THAT GIVES YOU THE FREEDOM IT GIVES ME?

You might want to start a web design business so you can be your own boss, work from home (or anywhere in the world), and have full control of your time.

Or maybe you already sell brand design, virtual assistant services, copywriting, etc, and want to add web design to your services. One web project could be about $2500. Imagine if you just take 2 each month? That’s $5K/month. Or one each month is an extra $2.5k. $30k a year in total.
